International Women's Day

On March 6, 2009, the Erlang North-West company celebrated the forthcoming on March 8, 2009 International Women's Day. As is the tradition, it was a day of flowers and gift-giving.

The men were prepared for the holiday and presented each woman of the company with a bouquet of flowers as well as congratulated them all on the occasion of the most lively spring holiday.

The festivities part of the holiday was held at the 7-th Mile bowling center. The company rented seven lanes, on which a team competition was held.

A look back into the history of the holiday will show that it was not actually conceived as a Fair Lady celebration day, but as a holiday of women striving to have equal right with men. This is the women's emancipation day.

In Russia, the International Women's Day was first celebrated in 1913 in St. Petersburg. It was also declared a holiday in the first year of the Soviet state. In March 1917, women of Russia acquired right to vote, and women's equality was confirmed by establishing it as a government policy in the Constitution of 1918. In 1965 it became a national  holiday.

Nowadays the historical significance of the holiday has been mostly lost. Nevertheless, mass actions are held on this day in many countries by feminists, who still consider it a day for commemorating the fight against the sterner sex.
